A Simple Sunday Reset Routine for Busy City Weeks
Weeks in the city can run away with you. Work, commuting, plans with friends and all the small jobs in between pile up, and before you know it, Monday morning arrives with an empty fridge and a pile of laundry. A Sunday reset is a simple way to take back a bit of control. It is not about cleaning the whole flat or planning every minute of the week. It is a short routine that makes the next few days feel calmer.
Start Slow
A reset works best when it does not feel like a punishment. Begin your Sunday with something you enjoy: a walk around the neighbourhood, a coffee by the window or a pot of tea with a book. Giving yourself a quiet hour before you start on any jobs makes it far more likely that you will keep the routine going week after week.
This is also a good moment to think back over the past week. What went well? What left you stressed or rushed? A few honest notes on your phone or in a notebook often show small changes that would make the coming week easier.
Tidy the Spaces You Use Most
City homes are often small, so a little mess quickly takes over. Instead of cleaning everything, focus on the spots you use every day: the kitchen counter, your bedside table, the hallway where bags and shoes collect, and your work corner if you work from home. Put things back where they belong, clear the surfaces, change the bed linen and take out the recycling.
Laundry is another job that feels much lighter when it is done on a Sunday. Washing, drying and putting away a load or two means you start the week with your favourite outfits ready to wear.
Plan Your Food for the Week
Busy days in the city make it tempting to grab whatever is quickest. A little planning on Sunday helps you eat better and spend less on takeaways. Check what is already in the fridge and cupboards, write a short shopping list and decide on a few simple meals you can make in under half an hour.
If you have time, prepare a few basics in advance: wash salad leaves, cook a batch of grains, chop some vegetables or roast a tray of something you can use in several meals. Lunches become much easier this way. My filling salad ideas for city girls are a good starting point if you want lunches you can take to work.
Look Ahead at Your Week
Spend ten minutes with your calendar. Note your appointments, deadlines, birthdays and evening plans, and check whether any days look too full. If they do, see what can move. It is much easier to say no to something on Sunday than at the last minute on a Thursday evening.
Pick out your outfit for Monday morning too, and pack your bag the night before. It sounds like a small thing, but starting the week without a rush sets the tone for the days that follow.
End the Day With Some Care
Finish your reset with something that is just for you. A long shower, a face mask, an early night or an episode of your favourite series all count. Try to put your phone away a little earlier than usual so you go to bed rested.
A Sunday reset does not need to be perfect, and some weeks you will only manage part of it. That is fine. Like any routine, it gets easier the more often you do it. If you want more ideas for small changes that add up, take a look at my post on how to change daily habits in the city.
